I am still very much affected by our baby's sleep cycle. He is almost 14 months old and still wakes up several times a night, and it is really tough. But seeing him during the day, the way he learns and grows so fast, compensates for all the difficult nights.
I gave up on The Brothers Karamazov. My brain is just too tired, and I would not be able to enjoy a book like that. Seeing as I did not have the energy for it even on holiday, I switched to two little books: Essendo capace di intendere e di volere, a nice collection of handwritten wills from twentieth-century southern Italy, and The Little Book of Reinforcement Learning, which is not too dense and is helpful given that I am not really experienced in RL.
At work we are very busy with the new product. I cannot talk about it right now, but I do want to mention that we have switched to a fully agentic workflow, where we write basically no code by hand. It is a weird sensation, and I completely understand what Karpathy meant when he wrote on X that he had never felt this much behind as a programmer: it is an entirely new paradigm.
The rest of the year looks busier still, between the new nursery and the new projects starting at work. Before all that, a few days with family to close out the summer.
